March 15th, 1495

Ahoy voyagers, the world has changed once again, with cartographers and historians scrambling to discover the wonders and mysteries to be found in South East Asia and Oceania. Sailing in the South Pacific has become the latest trial of adventure to tempt voyagers to push the limits of their endurance and explorer’s spirit. A whole new land mass has been opened up for discovery and not for the faint of heart to make the journey. I, myself have been aching to see what lies on those distant shores, hopeful to find new and interesting ports of call and discover yet unknown flora and fauna.

 

Along with this revelation, the mysterious ruins of Angkor Wat and the magic of South East Asia has appeared to further tempt our adventurous voyagers. Drinking in new architecture, exploring mythical ruins of the past and search for greater treasures and making amazing discoveries await any willing to make the journey. I marvelled at the sights of Jakarta, Malacca, and Surabaya, tasting the new air found in these exotic locations sparked my imagination as I prepared to venture into the ruins of Angkor Wat. There is so much history to be revealed and sought for, exciting treasures to be excavated and perils that might be lurking along new coast lines.

Even more challenges have arisen with these new revelations; nations have begun their epic struggles against their enemies with the seas turning into grand battlegrounds. Battle Campaigns will take willing participants into epic battles to control areas of the seas for their respective nations. When those nations are at war we sail to fight for the honour of our nation or willingly sign on as mercenaries to do battle for profit and glory. Travelling to the battle headquarters gives you time to mentally prepare yourself before you sail out to join the contest between countries, accumulating points as you sink the ships of the opposition. Winners of the battle is determined by the total points achieved by one side or the other so get out their and join the campaigns to win prestige and honour for your nation.

Finally the World Tour Challenge has been brought for the most ambitious and adventure seeking sailors of the world, filled with challenging and often dangerous missions to complete as you sail through the world, working to complete the World Tour and make a name for yourself. All these new additions make for exciting times ahead as we travel, battle, and explore the world around us. I look forward to the days ahead and discovering the many wonders of this world we have before us.

Good day fellow voyagers, after some much needed time spent resting and spinning old sea tales with mates who came to call it’s time to put back out to sea. While I’ve covered many parts that make the voyages and travels around the seas, I’m going to take a moment to talk about one of the prime parts of ship’s defence. There’s something quite exciting and moving to the roar of cannons fired in the heat of battle, taking it ship to ship might be more daring, but the manoeuvres of movement to get a good bearing on an enemy before blasting away at them has its own charm and appeal.

 

The main way to really score with your cannon fire is to get into a position of maximum damage, targeting and hitting the enemy’s bow or stern for critical damage. Position is a key to battles at sea, both for doing the most damage to the enemy as well as protecting yourself from the same. However, I’ve discussed this before, so for this entry I want to talk a bit about the actual tools rather than the methods. Let’s take a look at the cannons that are available to you as you progress through your travels, trials, and tribulations! Cannons come with their set of stats and found in bundles of 2 to 16, with more cannons per bundles their damage increases.

 

There are several types which I will talk about momentarily; firstly, cannons all have a set of stats, with only one major change between them depending on how many are in one particular bundle. These are:

 

All of these factors need to be taken into account when you are shopping for which cannons you wish to equip on your ship, coupled with the cannon type that appeals to you the most. Normal type cannons are your good old fashion cannons that fire a round ball to impact on the enemy vessel. Double shot on the other hand, fires two rounds in rapid succession. Grapeshot is specifically designed to be used to attack the enemy ship’s crew, full of pellets that will kill enemy sailors. Chain shot is a type of shot used to attack the sails and masts of the enemy to cut down on their speed and ability to manoeuvre. Incendiary shot is especially vicious in that its primary use is to set the enemy ship ablaze with fire doing damage over the course of time as the ship burns. Last but not least is Smoke shot which is used prior to conducting ship to ship melee combat., Smoke will cause confusion and provide your with an advantage when taking the battle to the enemy ship’s deck.

 

There are plenty of options and as you upgrade vessels you can always mix and match to suit your play style. Trying to line up range and speed even between different types can be effective to do a barrage of fire that can damage and cause disorder amongst your enemies. For myself I have a love for incendiary cannons though I couple them with standard cannons so I can provide good damage while taking the chance to inflict even more damage with a good fire. Choose your cannons well and may you find victory out on the oceans my friends.
