I talk a bit about this in my other blog but I do want to add something to this argument. All the rage is that this dodging and key binding makes for “better” players with more “skill”. I ask these proponents, please wipe that white stuff from underneath your nose.
In battle you can, attack, counter-attack, deflect, evade and block. Obviously to dodge is to evade, so what about the other defensive tactics? Why not build the game around a similar block button? Most people don’t have the reflexes or the training to successfully dodge attacks in real life anyway, but everyone closes their eyes and ducks pretty well. Wouldn’t looks as cool? Does rolling around or jumping around constantly, remain cool after the first week?
Just call it the pussy-out button. Your character doesn’t have the skillset to successfully block or deflect or even counter, so you must run out the gods damn way, except, you don’t look nearly as cool as Neo when you do it.
I’ve only seen a few videos of GW2, I haven’t played beta or a demo but is it really any different from Advent Rising dodge, or Fable? Am I wrong or are people just pretending like this is some new revolution to gaming, they dodged in Quake too right?
Mages and Archers alike are using this dodge button? Can these mages not motherfucking counterspell or reflect spell or deflect spell? Are you telling me that wizards from FUCKING HOGWARTS can parry spells all day but in GW2 you gotta jump out the way, that what they teach in GW2 mage school? “Naw it’s cool we don’t need to learn how to counterspell here, if someone shoots something at you just jump out the way. C’mon people hop through these tires, you’re gonna be doing a lot of this on the battlefield.”
It’s cool if you like GW2 and ur a fan of the system but let’s be real, it ain’t special and because you play it and win a few fights you ain’t special with your twitch either. Not degrading you guys, I can beat your score in bejeweled, I ain’t special either. So until GW2 can dodge ur ass all the way to 100k a year in PVP prize money maybe you should hold of telling people how awesome you are.
