Lately I have been thinking, reading, and hearing to others talk about mmos, but after a few thoughtful mind sessions, I have to say that I am like Saint Thomas, The one that said once: "I have to see it! To believe it!" I know there is a big story behind that, but if u ask me, some people have a big tendency to be like that, and others dont.

Of course they have their reasons to be like that, but I am starting to notice that people believe in mmos developers  with such a blindness, they take developers words like a command from god, they hype up from devs comments or trailers, pictures, media, other friends hyping, and they start hyping up at the same moment for weeks or months.

"Let me clear up something, by hype, what I used to understand is not the normal feeling or emotion of wishingsomething new or looking to get entertained, or planing to buy something. By Hype I mean, THE CONSTANT DROOLING OVER SOMETHING! Like worshiping something"

The media and the press have such a power to make people talk about a game, they memorize every detail and every word that one of the developers of their game said on a video podcast, at some point is amazing how can this marketing department can put together all this people into their knees asking for a game... lol... I have to admit, Nicely done!!!!... Well, Right, Fast, No screwups!!!

But the real question is:

Can we believe all this marketing, and press, should we get our hypes up. Like in Warhammer, TR, AION, and a few others????
 

You are free to get into your own conclusions, really... But! if u ask me.. the answer is a Full NO!

Whatever the answer you people decide to give to the above question is up to you, I will guess that such an answer will have some reasons to be like that, or maybe not, but the point is...

Why I am like..... I have to see it! To believe it! or in other words, If I don't see it, I don't believe it!

Well normally people believe in others when they trust the other party, but when the other side, like your girlfriend, "excuse me, I mean developers" betray such trust, people stop taking each word of them as true, and I did... 

In the past recent years, I have seen some strange game launches followed by a lot of corporate drama, and the famous developer podcast sentence "We are going to release this game and then add X thing later on" goes to hell!

The game get released and the X thing never appear, or if they do, is going to be so overdue that the big mass of people that hyped their game, is not against them, mocking them for failed promises...

Or what about a very recent one, the game got release and tons of things showed on game footage trailers through the years arent in the game, what is sad is that the game is low on content, and after some months after release, they havent released a meaningful patch at all.

Also you need to add the developers that start reHyping, with new trailers about upcoming content, but when people ask when!!!! they start giving ambiguous answers like coming soon or somewhere this year or the next... believe me I have seen those 3...

Some others create hype hype hype around X aspect of the game, but when people play the game, it turns that is like a lollipop but instead of sweet chocolate, is made from soil covered by a very thin surface of candy at best....

I have seen so many things that kill games, and yes i know developing games is hard, takes time and cost a truck of money and publishers are a bit bitchy sometimes... but plz developers, dont hype up people, and people plz... stop getting hyped...
 

Sup all... I was reading around some articles related to economy, stocks and all that stuff in that line, those articles are kinda easy to come by in msn, yahoo, even google, considering the economical situation right now in the world, talking about economics seems to be the new swing...

But let me tell you something, right now I am not really going to analyze world economics, lol, the only reason for me to write down this entry is because I notice the old myth that doesnt want to die, stills around shaping peoples minds in a wrong way... which myth you will ask, well let me put it into the next formula using WoW subscription rates as one example...

(15 dollars)  (11,000,000 subs) = 165,000,000 dollars, or bucks!

People take that as a whole and solely true!!!!!

But let me tell you something, that is absolutely wrong, that is kids thinking, or domestic thinking, the one you do at home. In a more bigger corporate level, things work differently, for the worst of the corporation and for the better of the government. lol!!!

WoW claims to have 11m subs, and let me explain something I just figured out, (with some simplification at some extent), from those 11m subs, the average payment is 14 bucks, not 15, why? Because there is 3 subscription types in the credit card options 15 per month, 14, for 3months , and 13 for 6 months.

(to have one exact number or average payment per subscription, blizzard will need to release those numbers, and I dont think they will give me those numbers to me, but in general this number seems kinda logical)

Now the first step in the equation is

(14 bucks) (11,000,000 subs) = 154,000,000  

here we have the first down,  11 million dolars arent lost,   they never existed at all

the next step will be... TAX!!! (also simplified because there is deductibles, liabilities and such, not that is that great considering blizzard is just a company of entertainment lol, also tax % are averages, as they change each year in the tax rate tables)

154,000,000 - 8.75% City Tax  = 140,525,000  (US will leech some blood out of you)

140,525,000 - 8.84% State Tax = 128,102,590

128,102,590 - 38% Federal Tax = 79,423,605 dollars!

also

154,000,000 - 2% Credit Card, and bank transactions fee, calculated at the time of the 14 dollars transaction (average number too) = 3,080,000

79,423,605 - 3,080,000 = 76,343,605

$76,343,605 / 11,000,000 =  $6.94 per sub

The numbers are raw, and a bunch of numbers are averages, based on information that runs around and not official one, not to mention that some things are rounded and the tax table I use for this was the 2008 one. But in general you got an idea of the picture around, not the old MYTH!!!!

In general blizzard doesnt take the 15 dollars or 14 dollars home per sub... after all the taxes and everything, they only get half of that... or less!

When I was in school, some crazy teacher told us that through millions of years species evolve into newer more stronger and clever ones that adapt to changes in the environment, for years and years, I took that teacher as a crazyman and never really manage to fit into my head the idea of millions of years and all that BS...

Why I said this... is simple, Human Behavior in the general society, and the ones who adapt, survive, and the ones that dont, they simply die and fall extinct... and

MMOS are not adapting to the change! Or People isnt adapting to it!

Maybe the new Mix doesnt go well!

But instead of blaming the mmos, and say what a lot of people already said, I start looking at the other side of the working formula.... The other side is the players, the society of people in RL that decide to get into the MMO world and chill around, kick some mob axx, and so forth.

To make things short I am going straight to the point.

1. People attitude toward life is changing, the new economical pressures, social changes, technology and everything that affects the human perception of their outer world is changing, more and more people see a Dystopia coming... and the old days of the American Dream seem to be gone in water. Takes makes people cranky, and cynical, more sceptical and sensitive and less tolerance to stuff they dont like...

2. Each day I see less and less people are calling for a challenge, now more and more people is all about get in, grab some loot, and in a few minutes fell the joy of getting badass, and mmos fail at that!!  MMOS add the so called Grinding, and lets put it straight here, Grinding if u ask me is the repetition of a boring action.. thats it!!!! Looks like this years, there is no grind proof people any longer... The threads and complains about subscription drops are clear in some places, too much grind...

3. People minds want the so called novelty feeling, seems to be the only happiness for some, and for that reason they want mmos, with tons of content, but it seems imposible to developers to get that much... But people dont care and want novelty in their heads, so maybe the new motto of mmos is:     "Get into the game for the free month, then keep moving forward" Is not that all the developers did something wrong, they do what they can with their limited time, and money, but people want more than what is posible, and they coupe in their possible ways, get a new game and keep hoping... Another reason for the quits all around in games...

4. Hype Hype Hype, I call hype the ATR-72 with a 42 fuel gauge... Why, because if u put the wrong gauge in that plane it will read 1800kg of fuel when u have non... so you take off, get high in sky then stall down to the ground... that is HYPE! If u ask me, games should be announce around 1 to 2 months before release, and before that no word is released ever, not even the game name... Create no hype, is useful to everyone!!! both players and developers, with no hype, you dont crash, you dont get hurt like omg i hyped that game so much and now i dont like it or it sucks, and developers wont get that hatred flame from people all around telling them that they suck, or they dont know what they are doing...

5. People asking for changes in the genre, ok I know, developers wont invest in some high risk project that doesnt have any statistical prove of success at all... but sometimes I just leave the developers alone, they do what they do, MMOS!!!!! and I notice more and more people asking for innovation, but it seems that innovation is a miss-used word, not even I know the meaning, remember people is changing, maybe their language is...

But from what I can dig of that so called Innovation is that, people want changes so radically that will change the genre completely, in such a way that it wont be mmorpg any longer... Example: OMG i am tire of racing games with cars with 4 wheels, lets make them with 4 little props, or rockets, and the race is about transporting X amount of people from point A to point B (sounds like aircraft industry to me)... Other Example: Lets make one FPS without GUNS!!!! We just spit our selves with acid goo... and instead of die from hits... we take different types of damage, and there is some healing goo, a buff goo, and damage goo!!!! Not to mention the debuff goo!

6. Those people simply want something different, not another mmo, but for some reason they keep asking it to have the tag of mmo, have tons of people around... and work in one massive way... They want so many changes with the name of innovation on them, that if those changes are done, is no longer one mmorpg... This makes me remember when I was in school... someone peers told me: "If u want to be cool like a rap guy u ONLY NEED TO CHANGE! your shirt, your pants, your shoes, your belt, your watch, your hairstyle, your backpack, your notebooks, you talk tone" I was like... OMG ONLY THAT!!! that is a whole new me, I better kill my self and start again.. yeah right... I am glad I never took the rap way....

This are only a few of my brainstorming thinking... if u dont understand it well... then thats is sad, I havent been inside the US talking english for at least 15 years... I only play and read around, so dont flame me in the comments because I will understand you... I can asure you that....

I hear in my other blog that sandbox are about creating content and somewhat forging your way into the game, there is no story, u create it... and you actually make everything...!!!

for one minute can you tell me if a developer is going to create a game with the ability of let people upload their custom 3dmax or maya content... and upload their custom scripting or C++ content...

C'mon people this isnt about Trolling about Darkfall... I hate darkfall anyways but it have nothing to do with anything about this sandbox blogging omg!!!!

We better accept the true... sandbox is the remains of a technically limited past!!!!

I was wondering why people want a sandobox game so badly and not another linear or themepark game... after all, sandbox games are empty in content and they sorta dont have anything to do at all... U do what u want... then I want something cool to happen... sorry this is a sandbox that isnt going to happen...

sometimes i feel those old school people want a sandbox to remember their old times... but in general sandboxes for me are low quality projects.. maded in the past due to the technical limitation of yesterday computing...

Sand by them self is kinda nothing... just a bunch of grain and crap in the beach, with u give it shape then u have something, and that is what themepark and linearity do... shape up the sand...

If u want sandbox because u are tire of bored of linear games.. then is time for u to retire for a while from mmos, after all is kinda natural u get bored or less entertained from something after a while of using it...

But if u want a sandbox to entertain you for years... i dunno what to say... those days are gone...

sup all... I was messing around the net looking for some info about that world.com against ncsoft, and believe me that world.com is so going to hell, why? check this out... In US the patent laws are diferent instead of be First to File patent basis, is more like First to Invent, u can hold the ownership by two ways, fill up the documents for patent or go ahead with the practice of creating your invention and appliying it...

of course you cant patent anything at all, there is some rules for patenting, like innovation and such, and u have to keep developing your crap if u want to keep the patent lol... otherwise revoke...

world.com claims patenting of this crap of virtual communication of whatever teh name is... but wheres is the contribution of that invcention at all?????

Ok i hear the news about world.com going against ncsoft in a lawsuit... but there is a spike in all of this that really itch me...

world.com feels like a vaporware company, and their patents arent clear... no clear evidence at all... can someone here post a picture of those patent papers or where to take a look of them... this not only sounds ridiculous, is like the first racing game developer want to take down with law all the other racing franchises.. lol...

but that isnt the real itch is driving me mad... there is a few loose ends on all of this.... first...

1. why now.. and not ten years ago...

2. world.com.. never hear of those... what game they have... where to get it...

3. why go against a foreign company in american territory.. based that they sue target is austin texas studio...

4.  and... actually if their patent is right... they can actually beat the crap out of each mmo there in the market... why ncsoft only... this is the key question...

OK here is what i think... NCSoft is in some trouble... maybe u dont know it... but NCSoft wasted 100 million bucks creating Tabula Rasa... and that proyect fail.... TR is going to be closed in Feb... and they not even generated the 15% income from their costs...( its in irony that Richard Garriott quit ncsoft.. and they pull the kill switch in tabula rasa....)

Because of this.. the korean HQ got mad on them and is going to closed or put down the austin studio... meaning that ncsoft will operate mainly in Korean with not much of subsidiaries worldwide, of course closing this studios have other implications that in the long haul will cost money.... they need to pull it from somewhere....

Second aspect of this... AION... NCSoft is going to release AION next gear in america... apparently they are succeding in Korea... that is their little new boy for this company... some rumors around said that this game cost the company around the same TR cost... lol again they invecst 100 bucks in a project... the need around 3 milion people to make it profitable from the first start... then suscribers to keep things going...

If this is true.. then NCSoft is shooting their last financial shot here... if they miss.. they are dead!

Ok why the sue and so on.... I somewhat think World.com is a bit of a vaporware company...  or it was real... and it was obtained by someone from NCSoft but not in the name of ncsoft, more like a piggy backing.... 

Whats teh point doing this... well, if u have sue yourself without letting anyone notice, u actually didnt lose anything in any outcome of the lawsuit, is like changing cash from one pocket to another one... lol... but if you do that, the NCSoft name will probably go bankrupt because of this or disapear and all of those bills to pay go to hell... (remember if someone owned you something and they die.. and they leave nothing, YOU ARE SCREW! you lose what they owned you)

One intention i can smell from this is... that NCSoft pay this world.com or someone inside NCSoft to go against them in lawsuit... world.com lose the suit... and ncsoft gets all the naming, talking, and press about winning a lawsuit in american soil... making an excelent marketing for AION next year...

Why austin studio.. because they are going to close that studio... is Ironic they are sueing a closeing place lol!

This sounds like some students in a school call the police from a public phone claiming that there is a bomb in the school... the school is closed that day... and no one take any class... but there was a test that day, and the test got moved a few days later... got the point here....

I think NCSoft is manipulating the press, law and courts to get a perfonal benefit.... a better world of mouth and opinion from people by wining a lawsuit.... Remember they are Korean based and people dont think high of korean games.. usually they visualize korean stuff with boring grinding... and even if AION is diferent that opiion is going to hurt the success of AION... and they are going to  try a change with this lawsuit press crap....

If u ask your self.. why they mention all the ncsoft games... well.. because they need to make it sound real and hide other intentions like the one i said...

In the end why this patent infridgement crap against ncsoft, they claim they used their sever structure... but their server structure was created by the same makes of Blizzard Battle.net back in warcraft III,  are they going to sue blizzard... I bet they arent going because the true intention is not a sue... is more a press call and a escape route in case of failure against debts... some rich guy is covering it self...

Everytime I hear someone saying:   Is just a game!   It happens that the person saying it follow the next sentences with ideas like:

1. They dont know a scrap about games:

Did u know those games are created by people and is the job of people.. and they cost millions and in the best cases generates much more millions than their original cost... meaning one thing, THEY MOVE MONEY! thats right... games help the global economy... not to mention that entertainment is a basic need... with out it your mental and emotional stability are going to get screw....

And u say omg is just a game!!!.... next time your door security lock gets broken i will say: Is just a security lock! oh ya.. u will say.. is a lock, my safety, my family, my goods...

Too bad... i dont understand your point.. i kinda dont want to understand it so do you dont want to understand the games one....

2. Despise:

Is just a game is turning like the old "With all due Respect" quote... which only mean Kiss my ass...

They dont care about the games... if we play too much or act to real they say is just a game.. but in the end... those using this quote of is just a game are stuck watching the super bowl.. or the baseball league or NBA... or they are fans or something... or they have some strange hobby...

What are you going to say to a NBA game... Is just a game... as a matter of fact those playing there earn much more cash than the pricks saying the despise phase and have much more fun.. are physically better, have more fun and are more recognize than you!!!...

Is not the same saying OMG there is Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, Scarlett Johanson (i think she is hot), Bill Gates... than saying "Is Just a John Dow" who cares about John Dow.. no one does... so you dont care about the game...

Ask 100 kids on the street where is dad... from the ones that say at work... what can they say.. He is at work... He just have a job.. they dont give a F... about dads job...  and u dont give a F... about kid games.... maybe u do a little but not much...

What if I say "Is just a scultpture, a paint, a song, a movie" what if i say "Is just a Bethoven Simphony" or Picasso Paint" what do you think I am showing... a little brain for culture, education, and Human History, DISPISE is what you will say... you dispise talent, intelligence and good thinking... 

3. Bad parenting:

Example: I told my kids is just a game... dont port the game into RL.. and then forget about the subject with the kids.... and BOOM! their behavior is modified by the game... HELLO!!!!! games are the new modern culture, live with that, dont like it... shoot yourself...

Even leeroy jenkins had a greater impact on modern gaming culture than the "Is just a game!" preacher...  accept the fact that your kids are going to be raised in other times with other ways of life... your so called Just a game is having a greater impact on the world than your doings, unless you are a president of a big country.. and i mean big one like US, an europe nation or russia...   Angola and so on doesnt count...

4. Scared about Arguments:

Those games are violent, they drink, they murder they are sexist they talk about sex and so on...  Loot, Burn, Rape, Kill, Repeat!!! thats a song.. and the motto of that song is a cruel reality your kids should be ready for... you dont want them to play anything violent.. and see any violence.. you want them naive...

DID YOU KNOW!!!! that in nature, naive and weaklings are the first prey... yeah and i mean the human environment... what can be more easily for a sex pervert than a child who doesnt know anything about sex?.... NOTHING!!!!

Are the school and life going to be so utopic like the way you want to teach them with no games... what are you going to do when a teacher in school Draw a knife or something... u cant dont anything at the moment, after that ok, do whatever you want, but it can be too late... 

If you dont want your kids to see violence then move to utopialand... the place in i dunno where it is... otherwise they are going to see violence in school.. the street.. the tv.. even in your home when mom and dad have  a discussion, even curssing and swearing is violence... if you teach a bit of punch and kick, that can be useful later on in their dialy lives, but dont give too much violence dosis or they will explode on you ok....

Other argument I read in a forum was... they teach bad grammar... HELLO!!!! lenguages change... what is saying U alone is the new say of saying YOU! maybe one day we have utube.com if you dont like the change in pop modern culture and gaming one then learn how to speak latin.... that is original... 

Oh what about those that go to war... yeah thats right parent... WHY IN THE HELL!!!!!! u dont let your kid play and then sign up to send them to war when he is 17!!!! Screw that big piece of parenting hipocresy...

5. Fruitless

People love to construct a church, temple, mosque, synagogue to tell everyone that games are pointless, fruitless and they are a waste of time... In general it may sound games are fruitless and pointless but in the end you get entertained, feel better, have some fun with friends or alone... have a laugh and all around that can be beneficial mind

Worthless???? Dont know why... but they have the so famous $100000 dollar nvidia contest in some games, or the user created content... WHY? because this games are worth something and in the end they are art... a way of expression of the human mind, even if is violence... whatever... they are showing what they have inside... that is artistic... even if is mediocrity, it doesnt matter then what u have inside isnt so good but is something... Mozart was art, Goya was art and so on.. and now in this day they are art...

6. Outdated thinking....

HELLO!!!! parents hear me... i know you are quiet older than this new generation... and I have to admit this new generation is a bit screw up... but you cant hope for more because we are living in the worst times of human history but that is other story for other day... THE POINT HERE IS!!!! that you mature people in their 40s 50s... grow up in other times with NO GAMES!!!! NO CELL PHONES!!! NOTHING MODERN AT ALL!!!!!!! so you probably sit down used your maturity and think for a while about this new stuff but you never had them... you never growned up having them... YOU  cant understand how it feel to have this new tecnology in our hands...

Sit down for a minute and think... did your grandpas, our biggrandpas have a car??? they probably never seen a car because they didnt exist at those times... and when cars start appearing and appealing the new generation everyone was scared the hell out of those new machines... and today cars are the rule for moving around...

What about airplanes... if you was born in 1870, 1880 or even 1890 u was somewhat old when Air travel appear... the already adult people didnt like flying that much and i mean adult of 40 and 50... but the new generation was like.. OMG LETS FLY FLY AND FLY HIGHER!!!!! in the end... planes are here to stay...

What about electricity... everyone was making their minds.. like omg.. is dangerous.. they electrucute you... and such, but a 3 year old boy watch the bulb with such tranquility and the 3 year old kid never feard electricity... he learn one thing.. dont put two fingers in each hole of the plug... thats it...

To make this thing short... times are changing, we ( the young) have new games, new entertainment, we live it, love it, feel it.... that is something that unfortunatly for you dad and mom, you never had.... and arent never going to fully understand... I am a dude, and I cant tell you what it feel to give birth to a child... only the theory is what I know... parents know the theory, which isnt enough to understand the whole picture at all...

Saying is just a game!, is a stubborn way of getting behind and outdated... times are changing and the life also does... the phase of our world is moving quick... you better stay updated or the new generations will throw you a retirement castle lol.. same with you young ones.... keep up the phase of humanity or you will be behind in 20 years....
