There are a lots of account being hacked recently in Second Life, at least half of them with the website redirect trick.:

The newest case is here.

Never ever saw anything with that poor account protection then what Second Life has.

Notice the case there says that they went to an account with a promsie you always get this crap with any games people fall for scams its nothing. Also to clarify its not a game and its not awful its just not everyones cup of tea. Just cuz you dont like it doesnt means its terrible and its not backed by SO whatever that is they have several backers

Also on a side note.... There is decent account protection people falling for scams wont protect an account though and it happens with every game i've ever played .... People downloaded keyloggers etc and there isnt much that can be done for people's stupidity. There are also alot of scare tactics used in SL that are horribly untrue like people taking money right when someone is online which doesnt happen at all unless the person is stupid.

Its out of stupidty that most of this stuff happens same with Identity theft etc

what forest of trees? XD Fruit trees? Kidding. SL is what you make of it I guess, as with any game out there. I'm playing until the next SW MMO since there's a pretty decent Star Wars sim there. I don't really care what BioWare does with it i as long as there isn't any elves.

Why would anyone want to hack into SL though?

It's really unfair to blame everything on SL administration. Some gamers are careless and greedy to put themselves into such situation. Anyway, hope all these scammers get prosecuted ><

Take a look to the right at the ADD for SL, these people do not care about anything anymore. Jail means nothing. They will park there buttocks on your floor and beg for money while stealing everything in sight. once upon a time there was law now the Law is a Joke.

yeecks - no, it is not unfair. Since SL is an RCE there real money is involved. That's the reason why it should have better security then an average mmo. For example there is Entropia Universe with an additional Gold Card protection. I mentioned the same or to find out something in SL, that was about a year ago, and the official answer was that will improve it. Nothing happened since then, but more and more accounts being hacked.

hkfood - this is easy, because real money involved. You can ask the same about why some people want to rob a bank.

If they can't get any money from the hacked account then they will use it for money washing/transferring.

Nimrod the problem is that even with the GolD card Protection (you gotta buy that with PED or USD mind  you) if they go out and give out their info they are gunna get screwed. Thats what this appears to be. They went to a scam site, got themselves hacked , and got robbed , i have never seen anyone get their money taken in SL that wasnt a complete idiot going to scam sites , or giving out their account info , and i know some fairly high profile people and keep a decent profile myself and help out newbies alot so im a familiar face in SL....

The point is if they go to scam sites thats their fault not LL's you know that as well as I do. Thats like your WoW account got hacked, onyl way its gunna happen is with a keylogger or you going to a scam site and giving out your info and in either of these 2 situations its still not LL's fault, the security is fine if you dont go out and act a bit like a moron lol....
