To Find "The Game"

I have played a lot of MMOs for over six years and have decided to share my journey with others. Currently I am trying to find "The Game", the one game that will catch my attention again as it did back when I first start playing MMOs.

To Find "The Game": Introduction

My name is Nicholas and I have been playing MMOs for about six years. Now that I got my MMO anonymous meeting introduction done with I can tell you more about myself. I started gaming back in the late 1980's on the Atari. It is hard to remember any of the games I have played back then but I know that the fascination of gaming struck me. I have always been interested since and always searching for something new to play.

Let's fast forward to the year 2000, I knew about Everquest coming out but did not hear much until I started reading online and hearing from coworkers about how addicting the game was and how damaging it can be. I told myself that I would never play a MMO.

Early 2005 I got a bit curious after reading magazines and online articles about World of Warcraft. In my mind I thought at first who would like such a game and it has to be all hype. I decided to pick up a copy to satisfy my curiosity and prove that the game was just that, hype. Well I started out creating a paladin and after a few days I found myself hooked on the idea of playing a game with other people in an environment where I did not have to wait in a lobby to find others. The initial time playing the game was not the best due not taking the time to group up with others but after finally taking the time after a few days that all changed.  I had a lot of fun playing World of Warcraft with others and spent the better part six years playing it while taking breaks to enjoy other games or just life in general.  More recently the fun parts of playing MMOs has disappeared for me; the sense of community, the challenge, and just being able to catch my attention like it had back when I first started playing them.

I have decided that now is a good time to make a journal/blog of my journey to find the game that will catch my attention and keep me there. I will try out the trials of paid game and give free to play games a chance. There is some I may not even look at so I cannot guarantee that anyone’s favorite game will be listed. Each game that I look at will be listed and what I find good and bad about it, remember anything I say is just my opinion and my opinions will conflict with many others.  I will go back and try out games that I have not played for a long time to see if anything major has changed to catch my attention.

Here is a list of games that I have played:
  • Aion
  • Age of Conan
  • Anarchy Online
  • APB
  • Champions Online
  • City of Heroes/Villians
  • Darkfall
  • DC Universe
  • Dungeon and Dragons Online
  • Everquest 2
  • EVE Online
  • Fallen Earth
  • Global Agenda
  • Guild Wars
  • Hellgate: London
  • LOTRO
  • Mortal Online
  • Navyfield
  • Pirates of the Burning Sea
  • Phantasy Star Universe
  • PlanetSide
  • Rift
  • Runes of Magic

There are more games that I have played that are MMOs that I cannot remember at the moment. To be clear, there are some of these games that I do not count as MMOs such as World of Tanks and Navyfield but they are listed on this site.

If you have any suggestions for an MMO that you would like to see me try out, please send me a message or leave a comment. Thank you for reading.
