Recently I have been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 again, and it has me thinking that it's been far too long since I've enjoyed a good fantasy book.
Please feel free to share your recommendations of any fantasy book(s), but in light of the time that I've been spending in NWN2 lately I'm particularly curious about (semi-) recent Forgotten Realms books.
Your thoughts are appreciated :D

Any of the Drizzt series, there are a couple more recent ones
Sat Aug 09 2008 12:13AM ReportTheres the Transitions Triolgy I believe by Salvatore. Only the first one is out right now, called The Orc King. The second one is supposed tocome out later this year I think. I haven't read it yet so I don't know if it's any good.
Sat Aug 09 2008 1:52AM ReportEd Greenwods trillogy about the nights of Myth drannor is good, try it. I think the first book is names "Halls of evningstar", was a year ago I read it.
The older harper serie have quite a few good ones. I stay clear of Salvatore after the Icewind dale trillogy, just don't like them, the characters seems a bit 2 dimensional to me.
If you still can find them, is the "Curse of the azure bounds" one of the best older series, also the never 2 books about cormyr are really good, Death of the dragon (cant remember the first ones name), Ed Greenwod there too (together with someone else, don't remeber who).
Sat Aug 09 2008 2:22AM ReportI just picked up The Orc King by Salvatore. I need to get into it when I find the time
Sat Aug 09 2008 10:20AM ReportSalvatore is boring. Just a drow killing everything, no real story.
Try any of the Paul S. Kemp books, imo the best author of Forgotten Realms. Wrote some Sembia, Erevis Cale, and the Twilight War series.. it's leading up to a new realms shaking event somewhat like the time of troubles. Ancient Netheril is back, bitches.
Sat Aug 09 2008 10:24AM ReportI went ahead and ordered Twilight Falling, and I'll look for a couple of these other recommended books from the local library.
Thanks folks!
Of course, I'm stll open to further recommendations.
Sat Aug 09 2008 11:44AM ReportPersonally I prefer the Dragonlance series of books. I've also been presently surprised by the Ebberon books as well.
Sat Aug 09 2008 11:55AM Report*pleasantly surprised, that is, by Ebberon books.
Sat Aug 09 2008 11:55AM Reportall the drizzt books, if you havent read them are great.
Sat Aug 09 2008 1:41PM ReportThese aren't Forgotten Realm books, but they are top-notch fantasy books(way better, imo). Actually they are books in a series. Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. He has 5 or 6 out for that series, and he has been bringing one out a year. Also, A Song of Fire and Ice by George R R Martin. A Song of Fire and Ice is incredible with 4 books out so far, but sadly the author hasn't released another book in over 3 years. He keeps pushing the release date back on his current project. He missed his latest projection of August '08.
My favorite is A Song of Fire and Ice. It will leave you waiting for his 5th book if it ever comes out.
Sat Aug 09 2008 2:05PM ReportDragonlance is good too, of course. One of my old faves is a DL novel, "The Legend of Huma". Then of course there is the Time of The Twins series.
I've also read the various "Dragons of X", where X is a season, such as Dragons of Autmn Twilight.
It's been a good long while since I've read a DL book.
I've read some of the Drizzt books. The last one that I read, if I recall correctly, was about a year ago.
Brostyn, I'll check some of those while I"m at the library.
Thanks for feedback, all.
Sat Aug 09 2008 3:27PM ReportA Song of ice and fire from George R R martin .. definetly .. Otherwise ... Rhapsody from Elizabeth Haydon is still awesome too
