Well, the money became available a little earlier than I thought so today I began to download Darkfall. Already I have mixed feelings about this. The last game I had to download was Everquest 2. It took over a day and I had a good connection. Initially it said 2 days...yikes..I turned it on and left the room. As an update it looks like its going to take around 3.5 hours.
It brings to mind a question to me...how many people are not going to even be able to play? There are going to be many that don't have a good enough speed to even download the game and that is the only way to buy the game. It is not going to be available any other way. I understand the reason behind it...that way the producers have full control and it is out of country so more "mature" content will be able to be kept in the game. It just seems like maybe they could sell the disk from the company and retain the same control.
Many games have had to "soften" their content only to ruin the game. The first one that comes to mind is Ultima Online. One of the greatest features of the early game was being able to cut a corpse head off and also gut it and take out intestines, heart ect. This apparently was too harsh and was removed from the game. The next game that comes to mind is Age of Conan. The game opened with NPC's saying things and dressed differently than they are now...and this was a game that had a mature rating...so yes, I can see why a company would want to retain control. Good move on their part I think. Let's hope that money doesn't become an issue and force things to change.

Enjoy the game. Ask lots of questions and be sure to read some of the forums at darkfallonline. Specifically, look up new player tips, crafting guides, PvP info. Stay away from the main discussion forum. Pretty worthless :).
Fri Jun 12 2009 11:00AMThanks for the advice...I have been following the Darkfall forums for around 2 years or so and know the content. I have been watching my friend play now for about a week and looking over his shoulder...I am very much looking forward to this game.
Fri Jun 12 2009 11:24AMyou don't need any tips, the game is self explanitory
its not very deep, find some people you enjoy
you'll get used to the control within an hour or two
and go from there, reading other peoples garbage is just that garbage... if you have been involved in these games since UO , you'll be fine
Fri Jun 12 2009 1:09PMI strongly suggest you read the survival guide if you haven't already (in other words, bank often). Also save enough gold (20g) so you can buy a new starter weapon if you don't like the Leafblade. Once it's done, you will be playing the real game :þ
