finished up rockband on hard on my 360 yesterday. for u guys in the u.s. i must seem like soo behind its embarressing ut we in the eu got it released in the end of may, and thats only for parts of the e.u. some have to wait until aug i think to get it. having nightmares of how long im gonna need to wait for rockband 2 while reading of how the hordes of electronic entertainment get to play across the ocean =( we feel abandoned hurt and a little disgraces by the ignorance of our market. sure e.u. is a hell to localise content to but i say fuck it, just give us the same as the u.s. we can speak english also (not as good but still =P) and i play everything in english anyway so waiting for the swedish release, yes im a swede, seems just unnecessary anyways. i know companies split up the markets to be able to concentrate on one at a time and easing up the suppliers but it doesnt change the feeling we are treated a little poor...just my thoughts of the moment
make your own day

Because your markets are ridiculously fragmented and the language/culture barriers make it a nightmare to deal with your bizarre government committees. Seriously it's a freaking madhouse trying to get anything done there.
Sat Jul 19 2008 12:30PM Reportyeah, that would be my theory, its just far more difficult to release games in EU so they do it last.
Sat Jul 19 2008 12:56PM ReportYeah, it's a hell of a language turmoil here in EU but you know? We are the finest, the elegant, the smart and furthermore the First Power in the World.
Hum, btw I love Swedish Language, I hope it never sinks under the idiocy of Globalization.
Cheers!
Sat Jul 19 2008 2:52PM ReportLanguage isn't much of a problem... Most europeans understand english rather well...
Wich means, the english version of any game could easily be published in europe long before they did any localization versions.
But due to bad publishers(There are publishers that are good, but most suits and investors prefer the cheapskate publishers), who think of the european market as one, and won't release a game until it has a french, a german , a spanish, a polish, a russian, a flemmish and a mbongolonian translation... We always get games late...
And they wonder why Europe is a driving force in Peer to Peer downloading... And why most european gamers have allready played their english game long before any public release in europe :p
Sat Jul 19 2008 4:18PM ReportEridanix you must have your arogance confused with self-pride and yea it really just is a pain getting things over there
Sat Jul 19 2008 4:50PM Reporthere's the thing,
many games are developed in english and launched in the US... they then have to wait for localisation to the many EU languages before releasing here.
Well Im from the UK or Ireland and speak english as a first language you say?
Tough, they say and here is why:
If they released the english version in the UK etc... the gamers in the french and german etc markets (many of whom have a great grasp of english) would import from the UK - from Play.com or Game etc.
this would sersiously screw over the native retailers in the non-english speaking countries - once the localised verisons went on sale... most gamers would already have had the game months ago...
its all about $$$$ at the end of the day...
Its the reason why bastards like Sony etc Region lock their games.
(although you will find some companies dont - i have a fair few US copies of Xbox 360 games I imported from PlayAsia.com for instance eg. 'Dead Rising')
Sat Jul 19 2008 7:25PM Reportits simple....third world countyes :P .... and im not being mean... i was born and lived there before
Sat Jul 19 2008 10:32PM ReportIt's not so much the language themselves as the laws and the lack of centralized distribution. In the US they have about a dozen outlets to deal with. In Europe it's hundreds. In some countries it's illegal to release games that haven't been localized. In others the rating systems are bizarre and you can get in serious trouble for putting certain things in games that wouldn't be noticed at all in the US. Europe is a great place. I'd lve to get back over there. I just don't ever want to have to do business there again.
