Today I open up my email and find a notice from MMORPG.com, WoW is putting a bard class into it's game with WoTLK, "Great" I think, "This may help the game get back to it's RPG roots but the more I think the more I doubt it. The class will most likely not be enjoyed as most people don't want to level up a new character to 70 , no 80 except for hard core players, now think for a second will they play the class for the fun and lore of being a bard or simply the said character's effect in raids?
Now I know what you're thinking, " What about new players?" New players wil not play a bard, why should they. They can play a mighty warrior, a stealthy rogue, or a majestic 9sorry I ran out of adjectives) mage. Why would they play a bard? A musically talented man. Most new players to this game are relativly young and will see this as "0MG G4Y". There may be a few that do decide to play this class but ridicule from the younger players will probably make them quit before they can be a key asset in a raid.
Nice try Blizz, I salute the jab at it but it's just too little too late.

Sorry didn't know you'd take me seriously added April Fools at the bottom for people who believed it really though I tried to explain why new players may have trouble in the game now that it is being raised to 80, just read between the lines =P

Ok first of all, when I saw that Blizzard created a bard class, I was like, what the .... is that? It doesn't even fit with the game's atmospehere and why would you play guitar to ...kill someone? WHAT THE .... They came up with the idea, "Yeah it would be cool to copy Guitar Hero in WOW, yeah let's do this people love guitar hero'', but it ruines all the gameplay...I can't even figure why they came up with that and thinking that people would like that.
Here is my little dirty secret. I actually love the ideal. This is no lie....if they ACTUALLY added that to the game, I'd be back and playing TONIGHT. I'd sell my Wii if I had to.
Of course...I happen to really enjoy GH and Frets on Fire....and also happen to be an actual guitarist in an actual band so the whole "music" thing will always rock my socks off. I'd kill for a class like that in ANY game. I really hope Blizzard considers it for the new MMO they are doing...which I also kinda hope ISNT one of their IP's. Using old IPs really constricts what you can and cannot do.

I thought the idea would be awesome. Not that I'd resort to my magical instrument to kill - a sword would do fine. But buffing and debuffing Guitar Hero-style? Would be pretty fun, and would bring more people interested in playing something totally different in a mmorpg. Might even do what the Wii did for consoles: bring more casual gamers to mmogs.
