A post caught my eye today. I didn't read all of it, i rarely do, but i think i got the gist of it.
We, the posters on mmorpg.com, are the minority of people wanking around in online worlds. I know, it's shocking.
I guess the point was that people who post their thoughts on forums have different opinions than those who don't. We shouldn't be allowed to dictate what a game should be like, because we are just a small minority of the players anyways. Now lets think about that for a moment. Who are all these other people playing in our games (if we even are playing any), and are they really that different?
Of course i am talking about the casuals. The damn casuals. And i am not talking about you guys that like to chat about games over here, but don't have enough time to fully devote to them. Because of your family. Or job. Or whatever. I am talking about mindless cattle. Jumping on to the next big thing because that's what their friends does. They heard it's gonna be great so how can it not be? Right...
What I think differentiates us from them, is the ability (and in many cases the time) to vision what we really want. We know what we want and we won't be fully satisfied until we get it. I am starting to envy that mindless cattle. It's a curse looking for and writing about that one special game you want to spend a lot of time with, but will probably never exist.
Still i think it's possible that such a game can exist. But it needs something... something that just recently came to my mind. Something to do with casuals. Which i will ramble about in my next entry.
Until then, keep thinking and keep posting.
