After playing MMOs for a decade or so and reading the pre-launch hype followed by the post-launch reality check, I've noticed a fairly consistent pattern: games dont live up to expectations. At least, not the expectations of the majority of the community who care enough to voice their opinions.
Over and over I see people talking about how Game-X is going to be the "wow killer" and/or the best thing to happen to MMOs since their invention, before the game launches, only to be followed by many of those same people bashing the game as just another "wow clone" or half-baked POS afterwards.
With the launch of GW2 and TSW coming in the not too distant future, I'm just waiting for the same people who are currently praising them for any number of virtues to start bashing them for any and everything that didnt live up to the magical dreamworld they had envisioned.
Of course, there are always exceptions. What MMO has actually lived up to YOUR expecations?

i've been playing a mud called Achaea for over 12 years and no mmo has compared imo. i have a very high expectations for any MMORPG which is based on the features / mechanics of the MUD i play and MUDs have no limitations mechanically /shrug
