When I first heard about TOR, I was pretty excited. I was excited for a couple of reasons. One, because I love Star Wars. Two, because I loved KOTOR and knew Bioware would make a great game. Which they did. However one of the things TOR just feels like its missing, to me, is the space combat(you know, STAR wars?).
Yes, I know there is a very shallow space rails mini-game. But space battles were a very big part of the SW movies, and deserve to be an equally important part of gameplay as ground combat in any MMO based on SW. Fortunately, a Dev post shortly after launch game me some hope for the future:
"Space Combat – We will continue to add missions to the space game. We also have a special project going on right now that will expand space gameplay in a significant way... for now the details will have to remain under wraps."

Unfortunately, that was half a year ago and as far as I know there has been no real mention of expanding space content since. Which is why I'm not still playing. When I level my characters I want space to be a meaningful part of the game, not something you do when you get bored that has no real impact on anything else.
So. Bioware. I heard you're having sub issues. Maybe if you added some real STAR wars to TOR some of those people who left would come back ;-)

I know that adding space combat as part of the actual MMO would get me to give it another look. I honestly couldn't believe that another studio released a Star Wars MMO without it. It's mind boggling really. It's not called Ground Wars for crying out loud.
Tue May 29 2012 6:34PM Reportguys really I still don't think tor can be saved, they falide hard on it, better would be make a new one, less cartoon, more graphics, and more important a new kind of gameplay, using the same old and beaten thing like wow did is same then tell me hey we lack criativity and just wnat your money.
so here is the deal no money if you guys will threath me like a moron.
and tor system is like that, I can see people playing it for the history, because basically tor is a Kotor 3 with multiplayer feature
Wed May 30 2012 12:39PM ReportStar Wars Galaxies was the cautionary tale that you need space combat, rich full space combat, for a Star Wars game to be worthy of the name. SWG righted itself beautifully with Jump to Lightspeed which, sadly, remains the very best MMO space combat bar none.
You could start a character on the ground, get a ship, go into space, walk around the interior of that ship, look out a window and look at other people's ships flying around doing their thing. That depth is completely unrivaled in any MMO today.
Not even in the well-loved EVE can you do that. Star Trek Online comes kinda-close, but the ship interior part was completely screwed up. You can't walk around inside your ship while traveling, look out a window, and see other player's ships. It's a completely separate, frozen-in-game-time bubble, and is one of my bigger disappointments with that title.
Mon Jun 04 2012 2:57PM ReportJust hope TOR dies as fast as possible and that EA gives up paying for the license so someone else can try it.
Mon Jun 04 2012 6:20PM ReportI guess to make space combat worthwhile, Bioware would almost have to add an EVE clone.
BTW I've recently tried Star Trek Online, but compared to EVE it seems rather simplistic and ultimately inferior (at least the space part, I know EVE has not much of a ground part yet). I'd call it the bare bones minimum for worthwhile space combat.
Anything less than a Star Trek Online equivalent, and it would be a waste of time from the beginning ;)
Tue Jun 05 2012 5:54PM ReportI dont think an "eve clone" is necessary. Space in SWG was not an "eve clone", yet gave players the freedom to actually steer their ship.
