Guild Wars 2 Urmaug's Secret Jumping Puzzle Guide

Urmaug’s Secret is one of the least complicated jumping puzzles found in Guild Wars 2. This particular puzzle is located in the Lion’s Arch just Northwest of the Lion’s Shadow Inn Waypoint. This Waypoint can be found East of the Grand Piazza. Step 1

Head NW down the path shown in the video from your start position at the Lion’s Shadow Inn waypoint. Take the path all the way to the back of the map where you see the waterfall in the distance. Cross the bridge in front of the waterfall and then turn right to head into the cave behind it. From here, head into the smaller cave entrance near the back.

Step 2

Once inside the smaller cave walk forward and then look left. Jump onto the tip of the pointy rock found on the floor. Start jumping onto the rocks that sort of take you in a circle around the edges of the walls (refer to video). Make the big leap over to the far wall rock ledge then turn right and make another big leap onto the flat topped rock across from you.

Step 3

Turn your character right until you’re facing the middle of the room. Jump from your ledge to the tip of the point rock in the middle. Take your time and make a precise jump for this one as it is easy to fall off of it. From here it gets a bit easier and more obvious. Jump onto the rock directly in front of you and then to the rocks on the right up the wall where it basically looks like a stepping stone staircase.

Step 4

Make the few jumps required (refer to video) to make your way up the steepest part of the rock incline. Once at the top you just have to jump onto a few easy to get to rock steps and then you’ll be at the top and can walk on through to the rewards.

This particular puzzle is known as Urmaug’s Secret but we just call it the Lion’s Arch waterfall jumping puzzle. It’s pretty easy to find and pretty easy to complete no matter how good you are at jumping.

Rewards

As mentioned in the video, we’re not entirely sure how to rewards work for these puzzles. They could be level based, they could be profession based or they very well could be completely random. Whatever the method to the madness is, you get a few decent rewards for just jumping around having a good time! Hope this tutorial helped!

As we mentioned in our previous post and YouTube video, there is a bit of a secret behind the Vista found near Sharkmaw Caverns in the Lion’s Arch area of GW2. This Vista led us to believe that there may be more to the cave behind it than just a cool mouth-like design. Turns out this cave is actually home to a forgetful pirate ghost who has hidden treasure buried within the cave. And to get it you’ll have to complete one of Guild Wars 2′s infamous jumping puzzles! Step 1

In order to start this puzzle you’ll first want to get the Vista, you can do so by checking out our GW2 Sharkmaw Caverns Vista tutorial where we outline exactly where the Vista is and how to easily reach it. Once you’ve gotten it, just head straight into the mouth of the cave by jumping in and making sure you land in appropriate place so you don’t die from hitting the ground too hard or getting pierced by a spike on the way down. Step 2

Head straight up the purple / blue rocks toward where the ghost orb went. Once you find the light orb hit ‘F’ to Inspect it and you’ll discover that it’s none other than the ghost of the pirate known as Captain Weyandt. He will guide you through the first part of the puzzle but will lead you astray once in a while so to make quick work of the maze like puzzle look for arrows on the ground that are made of stones. Follow them. You CAN walk through certain walls (refer to video).

Step 3

Head up the short hill and then walk right toward the waterfall. Run through the stream and jump up the rocks. You’ll come up to the “rock staircase”. Jump up these rocks to get on the top level to head up to the green stair case.

Step 4

During this segment of the puzzle you’ll have to go through several hallways where there are loads of spike traps and a few jumps over spike pits. Try not to get hit by any spikes as they do deal decent damage. You will need to get past several sets of these spike traps but they are pretty simple to get by.

Step 5

Head straight down the ledge and then, once at the end, turn right and head down the steep hill. Then onto the small stone pillar and then onto the stone platform. Try your best not to fall off, if you fall you will have to start all over again. Head down the path to the end then take a right.

Step 6

Jump onto the tops of the rocks directly in front of you. Choose to either light your path via flame-based spells or use the gamma increase trick (shown in video) to see the rocks you need to jump to. Make your way across the middle to the final rock platform in the back of this area.

Step 7

Jump down the rock mouth formation on the right side (lit with an orange torch, NOT the blue/green torch). Swim up to the surface of the water then toward the crevice in the rocks. Head to the torch-lit area and claim your reward via the Magnificent Chest. Speak with Captain Weyandt then do a 180 degree turn and head through the semi-hidden doorway.

Step 8

Walk up to and talk with the ghost (First Mate Shane) who is a Karma vendor (cultural weaponsmith) who will sell you rare pirate weapons. These all require 9,800 Karma points to purchase and at least a level 40 character to use but are cool nonetheless. They are soulbound so you can’t sell them. Head down the path behind Shane and dive off the waterfall (fun way) or just teleport to wherever you please. That’s it!

Conclusion

Overall, the jumping puzzle of Sharkmaw Caverns is a little tricky but is pretty easy and gives you a cool reward at the end. Hope the video tutorial has helped you!

Guild Wars 2 WvW (World vs World) Overview

General Information About WvW

Guild Wars 2 features two different styles of player versus player combat. One of the newest additions, and also a very unique one to MMO games, is the mode called World vs World (or WvW). In this particular gametype of GW2 players from 3 different servers can go all out in combat that spans across 4 maps. Each map can support hundreds of players, making this a truly massive PvP battle.

How to Enter WvW Matches

 

Some players seem to be confused on how to join World vs World matches. There are 3 different methods of doing it. You can either hit the B key on your keyboard which brings up the WvW stat window and choose a world to join, find and enter a portal to Lion’s Arch or open the window for the Hero Panel. Within the Hero Panel you need to simply click the Hero tab and then click on the button that says “Be in the Mists” to join WvW battles.

Holding Objectives in WvW

In order to score points for your entire team in WvW matches you and your team players must hold certain objectives. These include resource camps, keeps, towers and a castle. Each is worth a certain amount of points. Resource camps are worth 5 points, towers are worth 10 points, keeps are worth 25 points and, finally, the castle is worth a massive 50 points. In order to receive points from each your team needs to hold the objective for 5 minutes. Every 5 minutes the point value for an objective will be added to your team’s total score.

Capturing an objective is no simple task. On top of having to ward off opposing team players you’ll also have to take out defenses setup around objectives which can include an assortment of NPC guards, walls, doors, a Tower/Keep/Castle lord and inner walls. Once your team has captured the objective, however, these defenses will work for you rather than against you. It is wise to try and protect these to ensure opposing teams don’t overrun and take over the objective.

Using Siege Weapons in WvW

Siege weapons can be very useful for teams trying to capture objectives. They can quickly and easily dispose of medium to large groups of other PvP players attempting to gain the objectives. These come in a large variety including cannons, mortars and hot oil. There are others such as a flame ram and ballista. Most are used to either fire rocks or explosives toward enemy players. Some are short range, others are long range and nearly all are a bit slow to fire.

Gaining Experience and Items

For every kill you get, whether it be NPC or player, you’ll earn a bit of experience and have the chance of grabbing loot drops as well. These are NOT items that the actual player is carrying, just rewards for killing the opponent. It can be anything. All drops are randomly generated so you never really know what you’re going to get for killing an enemy player.
