Just my rants about old and new stories having to do with role playing or just the thing that goes on around me.

Remember when mmorpg's we harder and the adventure was real, and you would sometime get the illusion that you wern't in a game but another world?

That charm is disappearing from the world of mmo's. I remember coming home from school or work and to and would just lose myself in another world, I could run around and do nothing for hours and still loved every minute of it.  Now adays in mmo's I only about leveling or getting gear or just PvP, it takes all the imagination out of these games.  Remember they toy we had when we were kids, we had such simple toys  and we created a world for them to be in, but now adays we have toy that take away all the imagination.  Thats exactly what has happened to our gaming world.

Personally I think part of it has to do with a sense of nostalgia. I sometimes have that as well but when I face the reality of a "sandbox" world, it's not as glamorous as I remembered.

I do like activities that go beyond combat and I have intense dislike for pointless kill x mobs and fed ex quests. I believe quest should be an adventure both from mechanical and storyline perspectives. Minigames, exploration (with rewards), learning the lore of the world, and socializing are what I like to do when not on an "adventure" (or rather, slaying enemies as it is now).

Personally I understand what he's saying.  After a year hiatus from the world of CoH I came back and fell in love all over again.  The story was still rich and the fact that i could explore the world and learn or remember the good ole days when the it was new.  The added customization just makes it fun all over again.

I can honestly saying after playing quite a few of these MMO's and the beta testing some others that the mentallity of those who game is changing also.  The idiom of console gamer is starting to influence the world of the MMO player.

When i was in middle i had game like UO and runescape, no real quests the game was a completely different experience to each player because each player had thier own goals or reason they played the game, it was literally what you made of it, but in the modern days i think the games have much much much to many preset goals and rules and if you want to play with your friends you have to follow those goal or you will just be left behind.
