Generally when you role-play you think of table top games or like that thing that a counselor would have you do to help study your views on another.  But Role-play is defined by Dictionary.com as:
    1. to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), esp. in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction.

After reading this I understand how I the mind set I need to be in when it comes role-playing in games. It’s a bit more then just pretending to be someone else, need to think about the person you want to role-play and ask yourself what would this character do in this situtation, you need to get to know your character like an actually person but you need to know them well like a best friend where you guys can finish each other sentences.

I just think it’s a new way to look into it to help make role-play more effective.

If you have any other suggestions let me know.

I wrote a lot about this before so read up ^^

Roleplaying means "To act out." Professional Roleplayers are called "actors" (or actresses.) In TableTop roleplaying you DO ROLEPLAY. You create your character and the focus of table top roleplaying is to actually expand your character as far as it can go.

A good group will know how to roleplay and will plan on things. Its not about dice systems or all, the GM/DM is free to omit any rule in a tabletop game to make the experience more enjoyable.

The reason Roleplaying Games exist is because in the 80s geeks were targetted to be market audience and companies made computerised games with the genre name attached to sell it to them...but these games were not about ROLEPLAYING but about powergaming.

Taking one character who kills things with a weapon and making him so powerful that he becomes a super-character.

You can play an FPS, RPG or RTS...If there is a character role in the game that you take on....It counts as roleplaying. Roleplaying deals also with mortality, your place in the world and the character development.

Due to this, there is actually a lot more true roleplaying in Shooters than in fantasy games, specially dealing with the first person perspective. Notice you can't sneak behind almost anyone in an MMORPG since you have a full 360 field of vision, but in every tabletop game you have a limited field of view...

In all roleplaying, one plays the character from a first person perspective always. One does not do ROLEPLAYING in the third person unless they are talking about a story of another person.

20+ years as a roleplayer has taught me many things. ^^ Specially in a lot of things I have written and tried with people.

If you are blowing 1000s of hours playing a game thinking its about roleplaying...That is you being tricked and the game giving you a false definition..
