Defiance Arkfalls Guide

This post will give you an intro to Arksfalls in Defiance and tell you how they work. You get 2 different types of Arkfalls and these are Minor and Major.

You will find that the Minor Arkfalls will give you access to Red Crystals and Blue crystals and the Major Arkfalls will be full of Hellbug and Scrappers.

If you are at a minor Red Crystal Arkfall you will need to destroy waves of enemies attacking you. Try not to kill the little skittering’s as these will bite the crystal and cause yellow bubbles to form on the surface which you can shoot to do damage to the crystal.

So in a way they will help you.

You will also get Blue Crystal Arkfalls and that will means that you have to kill all enemies that you see.

The only difference with a Major Arkfall is that they are a collection of small Arkfalls and you will have a boss surrounded by Blue Crystals.

You can earn more EGO points and a better rating by helping teammates. If you focus on helping the team you will do far better in Arkfalls and get more from them. The main rule is to not try and be a lone ranger. Just focus on helping the team out and you will do very well.

If you want to make fast progress in Defiance try and join as many Arkfalls as you can and remember to pick up all the drops.

How To Get The Best Purple Weapons In Defiance

If you are after the best weapons in Defiance this post will help and tell you the best ways to get the awesome weapons. Probably the fastest way is to raid the lock boxes and in order to open them you should go down the route of getting as much Ark Salvage as possible.

A quick way to do this is to destroy the weapons that you are not going to use into Ark Salvage.

You will get 250 for White, 500 for Green, 750 for Blue and 1000 for Purple.

Another way you can do this is by taking part in Arkfall events that will give you the codes for lock boxes. Some of the best events to get in on in order to get weapons are:

Feeding Frenzy
Crystal Clear
Crystal Cargo
Pest Control and there are loads more…

Once you have done a few of these you will get keycodes and you can convert weapons and items to Ark salvage as well.

You can also buy lockboxes and convert the items to Ark Salvage – most of the time you will get some of the keycodes you have spent back.

If you stay consistent and follow this you will be able to get some of the best weapons very quickly…

Defiance Weapon Modding Guide

In this post we will give you a short guide to weapon modding which you will have to do at some point in the game. The reason you will need to mod your weapons is to make sure they are powerful enough late in the game.

Modding weapons allow you to make your favourite guns even better. Before you can even start modding you will need a weapon that can be modded, a mod and an EGO rating of 100.

Before you get to 100 EGO rating you will be able to access the Salvage Matrix but it is only after a rating of 100 that you will be able to start added mod slots to weapons.

All you need to do is bring up the loadout screen and then select Savage Matrix.

You then have some options:

You can break the weapon down for resources and this will give you some ark salvage.

How much you get depends on the color/value of the weapon:

White: 250
Green: 500
Blue: 750
Purple: 1000
Orange: 1250

Another little tip is to make sure you break all weapons and grenades down that you will not use.

Before you mod a weapon remember that if you have it equipped you will not be able to mod it.

You then simply click on “Attach mods” and you will be presented with all the mods you have. There are 4 main types:

Stock, Barrel, Magazine and Scope

You can see how valuable the mods are by using the color code above and you will also have a roman numeral to the side of the mod that tells you how rare it is.

There are also synergies that we will talk about in a later post – for now make sure you break down all the weapons and grenades that you will not use to get the resources from them and then use those resources to mod your weapons.

This blog has given you a lot of free tips that will help you make faster progress in Defiance. You can read our EGO powers guide, perks guide, weapons guide and more.

However today we are going to give you some general combat tips that will feature skills that are easy to implement in the game but will allow you to progress a lot faster as well.

Apart from picking your weapons, EGO powers and perks you will need to know a few strategies that will make the difference so here are a few tips for you.

  1. Learn to shoot on the move – Don’t stop moving! If you stop moving you will be an easy target. You will need to learn how to aim and shoot while you are moving left and right.
  2. Use the right gun for the job – It is a good idea to have your best weapons on hand and have one that is long range and one that is short range.
  3. Use grenades as much as possible – There is no limit to the amount of grenades that you can carry so make sure you use them a lot – you will not run out. There is a timer that will sound between the use of each one.
  4. Melee – This is overlooked but you can stun your enemy if you run in with a melee attack and hit them upside the head with your gun.

Using these 4 tips you should be able to make the world of difference to your progress in the game and the speed at which you get through the content as well.

What Perks To Pick In Defiance?

Posted by DefianceGuru Tuesday April 23 2013 at 9:53AM
Login or Register to rate this blog post!

In this post we are going to look at what perks you should pick when you are starting out in Defiance. The first thing you should know with perks is that no matter how many you unlock you will not be able to equip them all.

You can make outfits which are basically like playstyles and swap between them but you will need to stick with one set of perks until you swap it.

As a rule you will gain a new perk slot every 50 Ego rating.

What I would suggest when you are starting out is that no matter which EGO power you pick make sure you pick a perk that compliments the EGO power. For instance you could pick one that makes the duration of your EGO power last longer or have a faster recovery time.

Apart from the perks that enhance your EGO powers you will also find perks that are good for the type of playstyle you want to pick.

When you are starting the game however it is better to go for perks that increase the strength of your EGO power and then pick a playstyle later in the game.

If you follow the above no matter which EGO power you have picked initially you will make faster progress through the game.

Obviously weapons have a big part in Defiance so check out our weapon guide as well.

Defiance Leveling Tips – Weapon Loadout For Leveling

Posted by DefianceGuru Saturday April 20 2013 at 8:24AM
Login or Register to rate this blog post!

In this post we are going to be taking a look at another loadout that you can use for leveling in Defiance. You can view the shotgun weapon loadout if you would prefer. The shotgun loadout for leveling is more suited for people that like it up close and personal.

However this loadout will be using the Infector and Bio-magnetic gun to make a fairly solid support role as well as a decent leveling loadout in Defiance.

The main reason that this loadout works is that the Infector weapon will cause damage and you can use the Bio-magnetic gun to heal yourself. So it does take a little bit of getting used to but if you stick with it you have a decent combo that you can use between the two to level fast and get healing on tap.

The Infector also does damage over time so you can use this and it works well against groups as well.

All you need to know with this loadout is when to swap to your Bio-magnetic gun in order to heal yourself.

The best way to start off with this loadout is small steps, practice swapping between the weapons but as you get better you can use the Infector for longer.

This weapons loadout works really well with Cloak or Decoy as your EGO powers.

Using this it will give you a solid leveling weapon loadout or you can use this in PVP to dominate as well.

If you REALLY want to make fast progression through the game check out the Defiance Guru guide and start dominating: http://www.defianceguru.com/blog/defiance-beginners-guide/defiance-leveling-tips-weapon-loadout-for-leveling/

Defiance Weapon Loadout For Leveling

Today we are going to talk about using your EGO powers in conjunction with your weapons to become the ultimate Ark Hunter. Now the game has been out for a little while so these loadouts will depend on which EGO powers and perks you have picked up but we will be running through some good ones that you can use for leveling and PVP in the coming few days.

First off we will give you a decent leveling loadout that you can use and some information on how to use it.

The best leveling loadout you can use in Defiance, assuming of course that you want to make fast progress is the Grenade Launcher and the Shotgun.

Of course looking at that weapon pick you know that this is for the people that like fighting up close and if that sounds like you then you need to give this a go. You will have a huge amount of power and will be able to do some serious damage.

When you are leveling the EGO power that you want to focus on with these weapons is Cloak or if you are brand new at the game we recommend you use Decoy.

Cloak is better if you are alright at aiming and shooting because it allows you to get really close to a group of targets and then BBOM! With the shotgun and strafe while firing off the grenade launcher as well for some devastating results.

You can use Decoy if you are new and this will work in the same sort of way except it helps get some of the aggro off you before you attack.

We have some PVP loadouts coming up but give this a go and you will soon be a killing machine!

How To Get To Max Level In Defiance

Posted by DefianceGuru Sunday April 14 2013 at 1:35PM
Login or Register to rate this blog post!

If you are looking to level up fast and complete Defiance then you might be wondering about the max level in the game. As a rule there are no max levels – it is more your EGO rating that governs your progress in the game so by making sure you get your EGO rating up you can speed up your progress.

However this post will break it down for you and give you a guide that will tell you how to get around max level.

Max EGO rating in Defiance is currently around 5000 and here is how the breakdown looks:

Pursuits:
Mount Tam – 65
Madera – 65
Marin – 70
Sausalito – 65
San Francisco – 65
Co-op Maps – 105
Arkfalls – 60
Enemy Groups – 30
Competitive Multiplayer – 180
EGO Evolution – 95
Combat – 180
Vehicles – 100
Reputation – 80
Social – 40

Total = 1200

Next come weapons…

Weapons:
13 weapon types
19 level-ups each (1-20)
4 EGO per levelup
= 76 ego per guntype X 13 weapon types

Total = 988

Finally we have the perks and powers section

Perks/Powers:
80 total perks that require 3 points to max (or 10 in game levels) = 2400
IE: You jump 10 in game levels for ever experience bar fill and receive 1 ego point for that

4 Powers requiring 5 points each to max =200

Total = 2600

Totals

Pursuits = 1200
Weapons = 988
Perks/Powers = 2600
Total = 4788

So as you can see – the pursuits make up a major part of your EGO rating and then you have the perks that will be a big part of it as well.

Of course even after you have done all of that there will be some grinding that you will need to do.

I recommend at the start if you want to make some fast progress you concentrate on the main missions, leveling up the weapons, pursuits and unlocking those EGO powers and perks.

EGO Rating In Defiance Explained And How To ‘Level’ Up!

Posted by DefianceGuru Thursday April 11 2013 at 6:12AM
Login or Register to rate this blog post!

In Defiance there are no levels like in World of Warcraft as such. You will not work your way through levels, level up and then be able to customize the type of character you play as such as Tank, DPS or Support.

Defiance is far more open ended meaning you will be able to adopt pretty much any role you want such as solo, PVP, tanking etc… from your weapon loadout, EGO powers and perks.

So that is the first thing you should know when you are starting out. Of course as you go through the game and complete missions you will get more and more EGO points and then you will be able to select the perks that will compliment your EGO powers and you can make some interesting hybrid builds if you so wish.

So at first glance Defiance is just another shooter but when you start looking into the EGO powers and the grid you use to select them as well as the hundreds of combinations you could have it starts getting a lot more complex quickly!

Then you can add the weapons to the mix and the fact that each one will behave differently, has strengths and weaknesses and you can customize most of them with mods.

However the main thing that will govern your process in ALL of these parts is your EGO rating. If there were a leveling system your EGO rating would be a measure of your progress.

The EGO rating you achieve at max ‘level’ varies depending on the weapons and vehicles you have and what level you have got them too as well as your EGO points. It is around 4000 though.

The main parts of the game that will bump your EGO rating up are:

Weapons & Vehicles – There are 20 levels on each and a fully levelled weapon or vehicle will get you 76 EGO Rating.

EGO Points – You have 80 perks and you will need 3 EGO points to unlock a perk, and 5 points to unlock a main EGO power.

Each EGO power that you max out will give you 50 EGO rating and each maxed out perk will give you 30 EGO rating.

You will also get your EGO rating up by completing missions and Pursuits.

The best thing is to focus on the main missions if you want to make fast progress through the game at the start.

Defiance Shooting Tips – How To Make Faster Progress In Defiance

Login or Register to rate this blog post!

In this post we will look at Defiance and something that is core to the gameplay and that is being better with the weapons generally. You will need to know how to aim and shoot and that sounds simple but there are a couple of ways you can improve your gameplay skill.

The main thing that you need to remember in Defiance is the difference between each weapon. That certain weapons are designed with certain ranges in mind.

For instance if you have a shotgun you will be a force to be reckoned with up close but if you are at distance it ends up being VERY underpowered so you need to make sure you know your weapons.

Generally the weapons and their ranges are as follows:

Shotguns are point blank weapons and will work best up close.

SMG’s are up close and are burst weapons meaning that you will be able to fire fast and cause a lot of damage.

BMG’s and Infectors are close range.

Assault Rifles and LMG’s are mid to long range weapons.

Sniper Rifles are of course long range.

So following the above you need to think about your weapon load out and pick weapons that you can swap to that compliments your style. For instance if you are a Sniper you might go for SMG as a side and Sniper as your main weapon.

If you are playing on a PC you can quickly swap weapons by default by rolling the mouse wheel.

Generally you will want to make sure you are zoomed in to shoot when you are starting the game. You can improve your hip firing accuracy with perks but until you get there it is best to zoom in.

Another thing you will want to do is strafe, get used to firing while you are always moving to make yourself a harder target to hit.

Lastly and this is an overlooked one, make sure you press ‘Ctrl’ to roll if you get caught in a corner or are being fired at a lot.

Using the tips above, understanding weapons, range and evasion tactics will improve your skills with Defiance.

How To Get The Best Weapons & Mods In Defiance

In this post we will give you a few tips on how you can get your hands on the best weapons and mods in Defiance. Most of the time using these tips you will be able to get weapons with extra mods slots OR mods that are unique.

Here is how you do it…

While you are playing Defiance keep an eye out for mystery vendors.

You will find them in abandoned areas or around shacks; they change their positions so you need to keep an eye out.

One way to find them is to see enemies that are out in the middle of nowhere as in not in a mission. If you see mobs out in the middle of nowhere it normally means that you have found one of these mystery vendors and then you just have to fight through them and assuming you have enough scrip you can get your hands on the best weapons and mods.

Another thing you will find is Company vendors and these are linked to the various companies in the game. That means that you cannot buy their items with JUST Scrip you will need to have reputation as well with the companies but you can get some decent items this way too!

You will find a lot of the company vendors in the vicinity of normal vendors on the map.

If you feel your weapons on mods are lacking a bit check out our mods and salvaging guide and follow the tips above…

Defiance Quick Progress Tips For Beginners

Posted by DefianceGuru Wednesday April 3 2013 at 2:49PM
Login or Register to rate this blog post!

Yesterday was the official launch of Defiance which is a ground breaking new MMO from those guys over at Trion. Ground breaking because it merges a third person shooter with the strategy aspect of an MMO. In this post we will give you a few tips that will help you make fast progress assuming you have just started playing the game.

Tip 1: EGO Rating not points!

You will start getting an EGO rating as soon as you start the game and can increase the rate you “level” by exploring, completing missions and side missions as well. The key is to focus on getting your EGO rating up as quickly as possible.

If of course you want to make the fastest progress through the game.

An easy way to do this is just focus on the main missions when you start and the time trials or side missions that are on your path. For instance, early on in the game you will get a mission that involves going to a headquarters and you will need to turn off the Sentry guns and get inside the building. On the way to pick up this main mission you will get a time trial that you can complete quickly with your vehicle.

Most side missions will give you mods for weapons as well.

As a rule though try and stay on track and focus on the main story missions to begin with because they will give you the best rewards.

Tip 2: Use Cover And Movement

Defiance is an MMORG but it is also a shooter so you will need to build up the skills with weapons. A couple of tips though is to stay on the move by strafing while you are shooting left and right. Another thing you can do is use cover and make sure you use the “Alt” key on the PC or the equivalent on the Xbox 360 or PS3 to roll out of the way of danger. If you add movement, a jump and a roll you will be far harder to hit.

Tip 3: Make Sure You Pick The Right Weapon For The Job

Early on in the game you will get a shotgun that is very handy if you fight up close and to be honest it is better than the pistol you get. Use the pistol to shoot enemies above you and the shotgun when you need close range destruction. Also start to think about the way you want to play as if you use the same weapon you will level it faster.

Tip 4: Go Green Fast!

Another good reason to stick to the main story missions is that you will get green gear faster. It is not perfect by any means but greens are a lot better than standard issue. Within 30 minutes you can have a green pistol, green shotgun, shield and grenade. Also make sure you actually replace your gear in your loadout screen.

Tip 5: Go For Decoy If You Are New!

When you start out you will want to pick the best EGO powers and I suggest if you are new to go for Decoy. You can read about the EGO powers and perks but the main thing to remember is to pick one to match your playstyle.

Following the tips above you should be able to make much faster progress through the game.

A Closer Look At EGO Powers In Defiance And How They Will Affect Your Playstyle!

In this post we will have a look at the 4 main EGO powers and more importantly how they will change your playstyle. You can also read our other EGO Powers post for an introduction to all four.

The first EGO power is Decoy and this will send out a mirror image of you. You can also swap places with the mirror image once per use. This EGO power will attract the enemy and allow you to take some free shots.

Decoy is useful for getting aggro off yourself but can be very handy in a team as well because you can get aggro off of your party members as well. You can also use it to warp by swapping place with the Decoy if you want to get out of a tight spot.

Decoy will help you if you are not too good at the shooter aspect of the game as it will take the attention away from you and you can practice your shooting skills.

Good for beginners to the game.

Next up we are going to look at Cloak. If you want to play as a Sniper than the Cloak EGO power will be the one for you. It will surround you in a cloak so you are near invisible and you will also get increased damage while cloaked with the perks that you can add on to this.

It is quite a defensive skill but if you add the perks that trigger effects on critical hits you can make this in to quite an offensive ability as well.

If you are going for a Sniper playstyle grab Cloak.

Next up we have Blur and this is if you want to close distances fast. Maybe you prefer melee attacks or maybe you prefer blasting with the shotgun up close. Either way if you like close range work this EGO power is for you.

The perks that you get for this EGO power seem to center around increasing speed and melee damage.

If you are going for a Shotgun build then pick up Blur as that should help you a lot.

The final EGO power is Overcharge and this will increase your damage as well as reload your weapon. If you are going for pure damage then this is the power for you. You can use this EGO power with weapons that have a high reload rate like SMG’s or LMG’s as you will reload as soon as active. You can also get a perk with this power that will reload your secondary weapon which is very handy to know that is always ready to use.

Awesome for power and really overpowered early in the game. The only downside is defence as there is none!

Still if you are going for damage this is the EGO power for you.

You can always respect of course but try and pick your EGO powers to the way you want to play and remember to look at the perks next to them.
