Free games? No thank you.

Posted by DaX.9 Friday January 4 2008 at 10:55AM

Now this is not general idea just personal oppinion.

Free game are BAD games! I have tried some of thouse so called free games and it turned out that they are not so free as they are advertised. Sure they are free to download and play but if you really want to accompish something you have to buy some equipment or things like that. So is game free then? NO IT IS NOT. On other hand those compleatlly free games always had some bugs in it, technical support was awfull, community awfull as well becouse it is free, so everyone can play it and mostly it was just grinding all day long then PVP all day long. Some people may like this but not me. I just want good storyline, good quests and team work.

Cheers everyone!

    • My gods, I could not stop laughing at your horrid spelling. "thouse"? "oppinion"? "accompish"? "compleatlly"? I'd normally say "use a spell checker!" but it's obvious that you just need to go back to elementary school and learn how to spell. And "so is game free then?"

If English isn't your first language, you need to toss what you post into a word document and let it spell/grammar check it for you before posting it. If it is your first language, you REALLY need to go back to elementary school and learn how to spell words like "those" and "awful."

    • Pay for equipment to accomplish something? Have you even bothered to check the actual shops before you wrote this? Most of these games don't even offer equipment to begin with

    • Well, I'm not going to say anything about your grammar or your spelling, I do have an actual opinion on your topic.  Thing is, these games always have some link to the store on the home page.  At least all the ones I've played or considered playing.

The thing to remember is that the game really is free.  But like you said, to get ahead, you really need to cough up some dough.  I'm not that fond of micro-transactions being the only way to progress in a game.  But as a side, I really don't have a problem with it.  I understand that not everyone has the time to grind for epic gear or loot.  I don't have that kind of time either, so I see where they're coming from.

I agree with you about the storylines and quests and such, but you and I both have to face the facts; micro-transactions will become more and more prominent.  Especially after the first commercially successful game introduces them.  Everquest 2 has a method for purchasing in-game items with real money.  That's the first step.  But its going to go further.  Just a matter of time.

Now as far as the free games being bad, I can't say that I disagree with you, but I don't think they're bad because they're free.  I think they're bad because I didn't enjoy them.  But I didn't enjoy alot of the pay-to-play games either.  The communities weren't always there or what have you.  In a lot of the free games, the communities are there, they're just not easy to find or suited to U.S. gamers.  That is especially true with the games based out of Korea.

I'm not saying those communities or games are bad, not by a long shot.  But we're outside and they aren't.  All in all, I don't think free games are bad, I'm just not their biggest fan.

    • I dont nessisarily agree or disagree, you  have points that make sense, though for the most part you dont need to pay to get ahead, just, spend more time then most would like. and as for less grinding and more quests even lots of pay games have grinding. I'll just say this a free game is always worth the cost, but rarely is a pay for mmorpg (especially when you play for more then one month)

    • I think this was written by an anti-freegames spambot.

    • First English is not my native language and I believe that I know it very good considering how you know my language.

Second this was not written by an anti-freegames spambot.

Third it was just oppinion not attack, so stop attacking back.

    • Hmm, let me tell you one thing. If something was completely free, how would they pay for their servers/staff?

I believe free gamers should not have disadvantages to paying players. Equipment that can be bought, should be 'findable' in-game. Same with map-areas, leveling, etc.

Advertising and donations are the only ways to keep free-games running. Most of the time these are insuficient. Thus micro-payments were introduced. If they did not, then the support becomes 'awfull'. Bugs are normal for every game. Even in Wow or Eve you'll find bugs. The only difference is that paying games have more money, to hire extra programmers to fix it.

Pay-to-play games are often even worse than free games. They introduce as much grinding as they can to stretch the game-lifetime and to cash in your money as long as possible. (my opinion of course)

When you get a bad free-to-play, you wasted time. When you get a bad pay-to-play game, then you wasted both time and money.

    • I actually completely agree with you in most of it.

Free games will allways be bad, but hey... there free....

Best free game ive played was Regnum. Allthough its half spanish players and mostly RvR which made me quit because thats not my type of game, but was a very good free MMO.
