Sticking to Wii Fit

And I am actually sticking to it. Which is a pretty big deal since I have never ever successfully stuck to any exercise program ever.

So two months later and I have to say that while I have not lost a huge amount of weight on paper, I feel a whole lot better then if I had spent the last two months not doing anything at all, as has been the case for the past 4 winters or so. Fat builds up that much more quickly when you lose your muscles. Apparently simply by strength training you are assuring your muscles will burn calories even while you are sitting at your computer typing madly as I'm doing now.

I started the program with lofty goals of training every day, guess how that worked out? Yes not so well, I found that was a little too intense and I need days off to rest my body. What has worked out is doing 30 minutes every 3 to 4 days and while that does not seem like much I am loving the difference.

I started Wii Fit with a BMI of 23.41 which shot up to 23.90 at it's highest. Since then my weight has gone up and down like a roller coaster ride, I am thinking some of the results were not entirely accurate depending on time of day or bloatage issues. (I'm retaining water I tell you!! @#!$&) But what is consistent is that as the strength exercises become more challenging and I watch my limbs get toned I suddenly gain 3 pounds or so and then lose about 4-5 pounds very quickly. Muscle being heavier then fat and being great at eliminating said fat, that spells awesome news.

Confession time! I have abandoned the aerobics part of Wii Fit, it just bores the living crap out of me. So maybe I'd be seeing even better results if I was still doing them. However I'm not too worried, as long as I keep enjoying my yoga and strength workouts I think tackling aerobics will be much easier and more fun once the temperature outside takes a definite dive.

But for today I'm happy to report my BMI went all the way down to 23.00 which for me translates as 134.7 lbs which is the thinnest I have been so far. Though that is just a number I am more happy with the fact that my limbs are looking far more toned and sleek then they have in a very long time and if I keep this up I may end up in the best shape of my life period.

So again Wii Fit may do nothing for someone who already has a planned workout and is good at keeping with it, but it is a fun and simple tool for the lazy bones of the world who just need a few tiny pushes in the right direction.

It's ok to go by BMI if you want a general idea but it's the worst way of knowing your fat to muscle ratio because it only deals with weight. Just letting you know if you didn't already!
