Hi, I only really play sandbox/twitch mmo's. The rest pretty much completely suck.

Darkfall UW info analysis: game mechanics

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this for darkfall players following UW's development, interested in game mechanic changes.

So in light of new video/update on roles today, you might want to take a re-look at the old UI screenshots. Here they are

We can take alot more info from first one now. I thought before it was only showing some of the skills. Now we know those are ALL the skills of that type .

First icon is the earth skill itself (square) then we have the only 5 earth spells in UW, and 5 water skills.

  1. corrosive blast
  2. earthquake
  3. acid rain
  4. poison
  5. static field (ultimate)
  1. attunement to water
  2. frostbite
  3. bitter step
  4. water trap
  5. blizzard (ultimate)

also something I somehow never saw discussed before is that there are now only 4 attributes
  • Strength (warrior)
  • Dexterity (skirmisher/archer)
  • Intelligence (elementalist/mage)
  • Wisdom (primalist/priest)

Remember that there are 4 schools for reach role, so that is 80 role skills in total

And since you only get one ulti that means there are 16 different role specialisations or 16 different ultimate's.

Also check this quote out.

"Minor Incantations is a mixed intelligence and wisdom based school available to all characters no matter what they are wearing. It contains 5 utility spells that are useful in a variety of situations. Spells belonging to this school require no reagents to be cast."

Basically we can assume that ALL schools have 5 abilities.

Minor incantations has

  1. Mana Missile
  2. Heal Self
  3. Light
  4. Slow Fall
  5. Beacon

You can read what these spells do at the source;

As far as I know, Minor incantations is the only non role school we know exists. In theory there could be more. But this means there will be at least 14 useable skills at one time, hopefully more.

Also consider that many current schools most the spells are buffs or not used. For example fire magic; ignoring buffs and useless spells only has 7 spells, and that is one of if not the best current school of magic.

It does feel like the game has been dumbed down, having very few number of abilities at once. But its not the end of the world, there are probably many more useful/viable abilities in the UW than 1.0. You just can only have a small selection at once. 

Before a mage would have pretty much EVERY single useful ability in the game hotkey'd. I know I had my 10 hotbars full but ignoring buffs/pve debuffs it would be about 50 abilities, UW is offering at least 85 abilities. Hopefully all will be useful pvp abilities.
