Think for a moment; What if, by some strange twist of fate, Rockstar started to see the bright light, and decided to take GTA to the Massivly Multiplayer portian of gaming? I've been thinking, And I believe this could be this most succesful game in History if it became a reality.
You could Have all the Features of GTA IV in it: Apartments, customizible to manye degrees via in game money, Car races, Missions, And Probably the most (*cough* Asking-for-a-lawsuite *cough*) part of it would be the Gangs portian. Functioning like a Guild system, you could have your own, shall we say, 'Gear' that the leader designs to have all the members wear. And that would just be a small amount of the content, which personally would keep myself busy for about, oh, a year?
You could have more in deph features not availible to the other verson; Custom cars, that the more durable it is (Tougher armor, bullet proof glass etc), the slower it is, But the faster, the more squishy it is. Now, the racing aspect would get better, seeing as how if you just change it so the Cops were automatically after you if you were street racing, and you COULD shoot the competetion in races, and have some good elements depending on what kind of car your using.
Example? Lets say you have a car with these stats: 10 (Out of 10) Speed, 10 Handling, 10 Aceleration, 2 toughness. You would have mabye a 2.5 on your betting on if you'll win or not. But if you have a slower car with low stats, then you'll have a GREAT chance of winning Crazy cash, like a 200 Times bonus. So, in the end, racing would have it's benefits in a crap car, but some people would use a fast car if they had the money, making it so noobs can have a chance as well as higher level players getting a good amount of cash out of it.
Gangs... two words: Gang Wars. You could Rob banks for missions, take other hideouts, spray grafiti to mark territory, load up with your gangs money that everyone gets a cut of, pull of extortion and etc etc.
And, best of all, being a cop would be an option. If you were, say, a S.W.A.T. team member, you'd always start with body armor, but on the downside, you could only kill criminals, and you don't get a wanted rating for it if they are wanted. You could set up bounties and be a bouny hunter even, running around, avoiding police. And best of all? No leveling system; You just start out with little money, have to work your way up doing missions, and eventually, the game would become this huge rolling success.
Now, Servers; Why have just one city when you could have ten? Or twenty? Travel to other servers Via Airplane and you'll make it far in not just your own server, but others as well. Of course, it's very expensive, and you can't take your guns with you.
I think this would be the greatest Mog (MMOG, for those of you who don't know the term, MMO game) Ever. Who agrees? Anybody? I say we get word over to Rockstar or somebody willing to make it. We, as the Gaming community, have a Form of control over the Games, And I think that we can make this game a reality if anyone has the money, guts and brain to do it.

Sounds like a great idea, especially the gang/guild part however i couldn't imagine how big they would need to make the city (or should I say state?). It would take massive resources but would be on the top of my list to play if done correctly.
I would LOVE a GTA MMO, GTA games are loads of fun.
I would prefer a system like you start out not in a gang and not working for the police and through quests you choose you alliance.
Look up the game APB. Its being like produced or funded by the guy who did GTA. Same concept as GTA just with lots of people.
No. Last thing I want to see is a bogged down GTA game just so it can be "massively multiplayer".
It's been suggested a hundred thousand times and frankly it's only a matter of time. But I wouldn't want the younger kids whose parents dont give a damn and allow them to play GTA in the MMO. Would be WoW all over again.
All it would be is little kiddies running around shooting up stuff... not fun imo
APB will be more like Cop Vs Bad guys kind of game...but I look into it. Notoriouscriminals.net look interesting if they ever make it
I like this idea. Maybe have Liberty, Vice, and San Andreas all playable, with a few new cities added in as the game progresses.
For this to happen, you'd have to look beyond the scope of an MMORPG and start looking at a MMOWSG (Massive Multiplayer Online World Simulation Game), because that's what that game is basically.
Ever since GTA 1 was made we already spoke of our dreams to see a GTA MMORPG, for those of us long enough with games, overall i am glad that Rockstar probebly already knows for them to make a MMORPG out of hte game it will take allot more resources in tech then they are able to use even today, else Rockstar would have already made a GTA MMORPG< but you see company's like that know what the public want and they already know they can not give the public what thgey want with current tech, actualy gamers should realize this aswell.
Overall we all know all those things that make single player games so much fun for allot of people is because what is possible due to tech with them, which we all know or atleast shold know will not work with current technoligy.....in time...trust me in time.....hopefully even within the next 3/5 years from now.....i hope
