Still Thrashing on 1.31

I'm sure there are a lot of players out there watching our site and the Twitter feed for signs that open Beta for 1.31 is on the horizon. Nobody wants that to happen more than the dozen or so Rats thrashing away on the last of our TO DO items. There is good news though, the last major code check-in took place earlier this week and we are now trying to build our first open Beta candidate. What does that mean? Keep reading to find out.

While we've had most of the features slated for 1.31 in closed Beta testing for a couple of months, we've been anxiously awaiting some major code which alters the way the terrain is populated when your game client is loading. This code should net some good results in reducing stutters while playing and reduce memory errors we've seen creeping into the game. It has been a long road to get this completed as it touches a lot of the game engine components. It also affects almost all the objects in the terrain and our artists have been scrambling to make changes to the objects so that they work with the new code. All this is a way of saying, we're closing in on the home stretch.

Our plan is to build an open Beta candidate this week and get it into testing as soon as possible next week. While it's tested in closed Beta, the final host support needed for 1.31 features like the new capture changes will be completed. If these both prove out as stable and (mostly) complete, then we'll likely announce a date for open Beta.

We had a meeting on Tuesday to determine our goals and plans for the 1.31 open Beta and have decided that 1.31 will first be available for offline testing prior to opening up a Beta server. Dana "GOPHUR" Baldwin, Goeff "DOC" Evans and Steve "BLOO" Daniels are writing up focus testing requirements that will be made available to all players for the offline client.

So rest assured, we are working hard to get the open Beta started and will post as soon as we can when it's ready. For those of you waiting on system specs for 1.31, GOPHUR and BLOO are putting together a 'budget build' test rig this week for a final check and then we'll publish the specs in time for you to upgrade your rig if necessary for 1.31.

If your a fan of bang-bang FPS games, spawn, shoot, die...lather, rinse repeat....then I would recommend you keep looking.

If you like games that make you think, force you to learn skills, where teamwork with 4 guys (or 400) as infantry, armor and air is required for success...then this is a game you will enjoy.

And this is frome someone who, for hardware reasons, hasn't played in since '07 ;)

Yea its worth it if your a fan of realism and ww2. Patience, a keen eye, and good audio are a must..

Check the forums if you use a mouse for spoons remapping of the keys downloads unless they have added them as default to the game since ive last played. THis is so you can use the keyboard and mouse instead of a joystick. Practice offline to understand and mess with the different key map settings. And as any pilot would tell you, use a controller to fly, and practice offline dont expect to be the best at anything right off, it takes practice.

Many things are different then your run of the mill battlefield games out, armor has hit locations and react to being hit like real armor would, just because you shoot it doesnt mean it will die, it depends on where you shoot it, angle on the armor, AND THE DESIGN OF THE HULL OF THE ARMOR. Shoot my get deflected or not do any damage at all.

 

The games old, hence the long awaited upgrades. The infantry combat doesnt behave like call of duty 2 "yet" mechanics wise, and the movements arnt as fluid as Id personally like them to be, but after you get use to it its playable and enjoyable. Battles are epic indeed.

I have played for a long long time, as in my sig in the forum shows, this is so long over due, and very very welcome.

The game is of its own, sitll the largest single enviroment, fly from one end to the other of europe... Bombing runz, wow...

It trully is amazing when you look at all that it takes for each map to run, logistics and all.

I recomend any one that has any spark of intrest just download and try it!

WWIIOL (or Battleground Europe) is still my 100% #1 favorite game of all time.  No other game, -ever-, even come close to the scope of this game.  Fully persistent, air/infantry/armor/naval combat that works like it should.  Real life hit detection, etc.  Once you get past the learning curve the battles are epic and intense.  

I've been playing since alpha, yes alpha long long before it was released.  Getting into a good and helpful squad is definitely a bonus as well and will make your learning curve much shorter and make your game-time much more fun.

Having planes flying over your head, tanks battling it out, MG fire all around you all while you sit there trying to capture a town is just awesome.  No other game has ever come close to the true battle-like feel this game has.

 

I HIGHLY encourage anyone who's interested to give it a shot..or wait for 1.31 to come out and then try.  Even though the graphics aren't top notch, the gameplay by FAR makes up for it.
