Finding that "First MMO experience of excitement and awe" in another MMO...Can it be done?

Do you remember your second MMO, your third, and so on? I bet not, but I'll bet you remember your first one and the excitement and awe that it entailed. Have you had that sheer excitement again in a new MMO? Me either, until now!

My first MMO was EQ in June of 2000. My son told me about it and at first I just pushed him off with yeah, whatever type of attitude. He kept after me until I tried it. I could not believe my eyes. I had never even played networked games, I never even played 2 player games so the fact that the toon I was seeing on my screen was my son blew me away! It was amazing, revolutionary even. I could talk to him, fight with him do or go wherever with him. It was something totally new and it enveloped me in a way that no gaming experience had done before. I rode that high for many months, I couldn't get enough. New MMO's would come out, I would try them but none gave me that amazing experience that EQ had. I'm not sure that it was "EQ"....just that EQ was my first MMO experience.

Well, like Acidon, I have played countless MMo's since then and have never been able to get that awesome feeling back....until now! I have finally found an MMo that gives me that new and exciting feeling; I am having withdrawals when I am not playing it. As a matter of fact it isn't even out yet but I am involved with the closed betas. This new game is "AION, Tower of Eternity". It was just a weekend beta, 4 days, and when it ended I thought "Oh no, what am I gonna do now"? I was playing City of Heroes’ before that weekend and now I can't think of anything else....I don't want to play CoH or any other MMO, all I want to do is play Aion. It gave me that new game feeling, that new experience that I haven't felt since the days of EQ. I don't know exactly what it is about Aion, it's just a combination of everything I think, it flows so well, the UI is awesome, the questing is perfect. It's like they designed this game around me. It may not be for everyone but it is certainly for me. As soon as the beta was over I immediately ordered the Collector’s Edition that among many other things, allows me to participate in all forth coming betas.

I just wanted to see what your second "New and exciting" gaming experience might have been. I mean that true "Wow" feeling. There have been lots of games that I have liked...allot, but none until Aion have given me that "Wow" feeling. So tell me what is your "Wow" feeling either on your first or second game.

Ok, enough rambling for now, comment if you like, I would really like to hear your opinion. Thank you.

My next entry will be about the few things that, IMHO need fixing in Aion. Coming soon.

BTW, this is the first time I have ever written anything about anything online. That should give you an idea of how much of an impact Aion has made on me.

P.S. I am in no way affiliated with NCSoft or Aion in anyway, this is not an advertisement, it is just my experience with this new, awesome game.

Hey Arbdone,

I have to say that I agree completely about Aion.  At first I didn't give it a second thought.  There are quite a few games of that type on the market (or so I thought).  I'm so happy that you talked me into trying it.  I rushed to order the collectors edition as well.  So i'll be there on release and during all beta events prior to then.

i think you can find that special feeling in other games.  I found it in WoW (the first MMO i was able to play consistantly) and in SWG (scattered playing over 1 week due to computer troubles and unfortunately it was the week before the NGE -_-).  I came back to SWG many years later only to find the same feeling of excitement i got way back when i started.  Of course this faded quite quickly when i discovered all the changes but the point was i found that feeling again, even many years later.

My best MMO experience came in diablo 2 believe it or not in a modded game on a hardcore server. It was a small group of core players where everyone knew everyone and it was a sense of community. I think that is the most fun.

I also get super addicted to games, but if i could go back, it would be to that diablo 2 mod games or when i first played diablo 2 in 2000 on hardcore server.

Also, I played lineage 2 for 6 months and quit because I hated the community and NCsoft - - - there is no excuse to have bots in a non-instanced world that directly affected your quality of play and the ebayers . . .

I vowed to never play or try another NCsoft game after that, of course i just tried dungeon runners today not knowing it was an NCsoft piece of crap . . .2 minutes in i quit and deleted it.
