New sci-fi MMO AD2460 has emerged from the Norwegian development company, Fifth Season AS - a company with aspirations of changing the way MMO players look at web-based games.
AD2460 is set in a distant future where the main concern is winning the race for universal resources. Players take control of their own home worlds and work to develop them, setting up outposts and mining stations. Player cooperation is a key element of the game, as is creating fleets of customizable ships just in case other players aren't so cooperative.
AD2460 is subscription based, and was made with the support of the Norwegian Film Institute and the Norwegian Research Council. Though the game's website isn't forthcoming about how much the subscription costs, players can try the game for free for 15 days.
